In the spotlight: Chrissie Kreme Cheng

Chrissie describes herself as "a midwest girl from the U.S.A.", and is a very active

I have booked SL artists for other venues in the past but I now have my own music venue that opened this past month! It's something I have wanted to do for a long time!

participant as a live music fan and a venue owner in SecondLife ("CLAWberry Field"). I got to know Chrissie initially because I had a regular show following another performer in SL, AMforte Clarity, whose shows Chrissie frequently attends. Chrissie took some time to answer some questions for our spotlight today.

MDS: What are some of your earliest memories of music in your life?

CKC: As a young girl, I drove my parents crazy running around the house and singing

"At The End of the Day" by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I still get the urge to run around the house singing that song. Maybe you should cover that song, Marqs! Music has always been a big part of my life, even at an early age. I took piano lessons and played clarinet in the school band.

MDS: LOL, maybe I will! Who were the performers or songs that you remember most vividly loving to listen to when you were in your youth?

CKC: My dad is a musician so I grew up listening to a lot of his favorite artists and legendary groups like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and the greatest band of all time,

The Beatles. Dad also instilled in me an appreciation for Blues music. I did get into the Boy Bands as a youngster and I still love the song "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. I was, and still am, a big fan of Pearl Jam, Radiohead and the Foo Fighters. "Everlong" is one of my favorite songs and I still have a crush on Dave Grohl.

MDS: Were there any memorable live music events you attended?

CKC: I've been to many live music events and I have gotten to see Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Decemberists and many of my other favorite performers in concert. But the

most memorable concert was the first concert that I went to when my parents took me to see Paul McCartney. It was just amazing! The lighting, the special effects, the fantastic performance by Paul and the energy of the crowd left such an impression on me! All of us singing along with Paul on "Hey Jude" is something that I will always remember!

MDS: Very special memory indeed! These days, who are some of the performers/songs you enjoy listening to?

CKC: I love the music of Beth Hart. She is such an amazing singer, musician, composer

and performer! Her songs are filled with emotion and she sings them from the heart. One of my favorite songs by Beth is "I Will Take Care of You" and the guitar solo in that song by Joe Bonamassa gives me chills! I've recently been getting into the music of Billie Eilish. I love her songs "idontwannabeyouanymore" and "bellyache". My sweet friend

AMForte has been a big influence on me musically and has introduced me to groups like Blue Rodeo and Florida Georgia Line. I love the song "H.O.L.Y." by Florida Georgia Line and the video of them performing it with my childhood crushes, the Backstreet Boys.

MDS: Who are some of your favorite performers in SL?

CKC: So many wonderful and talented performers on SL! I absolutely love AMForte! She is so amazing! Her voice makes me melt and she is such an accomplished guitar player! I

so love when she does her original compositions. AM has written so many great songs like "Liar", "Nothing Concrete", "I Failed", "Please", and the list goes on. Her live performances on SL are so wonderful to attend! I just love hearing Rosemary Rita perform on SL too! She has a beautiful angelic voice

and can play a mean guitar! Rose also writes some awesome original songs as well! And then there's that guy...what's his name? Oh Yeah, Marqs DeSade! He knows how much I love his song "I Don't Miss You at All". Marqs is such a great singer and songwriter and such an amazing guitarist and musician. But don't tell him I said that! It'll go to his head!

MDS: I won't breathe a word! Have you attended a real life concert or live music performance recently?

CKC: Not long ago I was able to see Paul McCartney in concert again. It was at an outdoor venue and Paul put on a fantastic show. It was a thrill to get to see him live again and performing some of the greatest music ever written!

MDS: What would you like to say to performers about how they can make the listening experience more enjoyable?

CKC: I absolutely love when SecondLife artists perform their original songs! I love the cover songs but I always want them to do more of their originals! So to all you composers out there...more originals!! That means you too, Marqs! I just want to say thanks to all the performers here on SecondLife for bringing so much great music into our lives! It means so much to me and to so many other people here! And thanks so much for letting me blog with you Marqs! MDS: Thank YOU for sharing your thoughts and experiences, Chrissie!
