Original Songs
As a singer-songwriter, my musical 'children' are my songs.. like all parents, you want to show off your children now and then, so here are a few of my songs..
"Are You Still Breathing?"
Are You Still Breathing was written in January 2020, before Covid took over the world and isolated us, as well as literally taking away the breath of some. Are You Still Breathing is a love song, but speaks from a perspective of one feeling somewhat isolated from the person he loves, and wistfully wondering if there will ever be the opportunity to be together again. While the themes in this song are timeless for lovers, the events which surrounded Covid's entrance into the world, pushing us further apart and keeping us from the ones we love, make the feelings in Are You Still Breathing even more relevant and poignant.
"Are you still breathing?
Are you still holding on so tight?
Are you still listening?
Do the words still come out right?
Is there a
place where it
Will ever be
Just you.. just me?
Are you still waiting?
Is your heart lingering for me?
Are there still moments
When your soul feels eternity?
Will there be
a time when
these embers will fade-
The light in my eyes turn to gray?
Are you still breathing?
Are you still holding on so tight?
Are you still listening?
Do the words still come out right?
Is there a
place where it
Will ever be
Just you.. just me?"
"I Think I'm Fallin'?"
I Think I'm Fallin' is all about the rush of new love, and the excitement that accompanies the process of being drawn into the world of someone else and the feeling that nothing else is.. or ever could...be so wonderful.
Seems lately you’re the center of my thoughts,
though I don’t think you understand
how much of my heart has been caught
you got me in the palm of your hand
I tried to hold back not give in
but every moment I feel myself slip
I want to feel the warmth of your skin
kiss your lips
chorus
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love with you
nothing can hold me back, my mind’s one track
there’s nothing else I want to do
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love
with you
I knew from the moment we met
no way that I could walk away
haven’t found my limit yet
reaching for the light of day
my grip is slipping fast
I hope that you feel it too
my heart pounds when you look at me
I catch my breath when I see you
chorus
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love with you
nothing can hold me back, my mind’s one track
there’s nothing else I want to do
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love
with you
I know I’m taking chances
but that’s what romance is
baring your heart
maybe before we begin
you’ll tell me it’s the end
but I hope it’s the start
chorus
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love with you
nothing can hold me back, my mind’s one track
there’s nothing else I want to do
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love
with you
chorus
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love with you
nothing can hold me back, my mind’s one track
there’s nothing else I want to do
I think I’m fallin’ fallin’ fallin’ in love
with you
"That Friday Feeling"
That Friday Feeling (it's a day with a built in hug) grew out of a text conversation I had one Friday morning with Nene Chrome about why Fridays had such a great 'feel' to them as compared to other days. When I asked her what made Fridays so special, she gave me a very 'feel good' spiel about 'warm kisses, cold beer, late night talks in summer parks', so I used her words to spark this song about this special day that represents for many the end of the work week and the beginning of the weekend time for rest, relaxation and fun.
It's morning, you open up your eyes
And suddenly you realize
What today is, and it makes you smile.
The chaos is winding slowly down,
There's joy in your heart that's gaining ground.
For once the clock is your friend, for awhile.
That Friday Feeling,
It's better than any drug,
It's a day with a built in hug.
As you watch the clock,
Every tick and tock,
Counts down as the moments are stealing,
That Friday Feeling.
You wiggle your toes feeling yourself tingle,
Sing yourself a little freedom jingle.
The energy around you is shooting sparks.
Come the end of the day you'll be ready to run
To lose yourself in your weekend fun:
Warm kisses, cold beer, late night talks in summer parks.
That Friday Feeling,
It's better than any drug.
It's a day with a built in hug.
As you watch the clock, every tick and tock
Counts down as the moments are stealing,
That Friday Feeling.
Let the countdown begin,
Cause this week needs to end.
That Friday Feeling,
It's better than any drug,
It's a day with a built in hug.
As you watch the clock,
Every tick and the tock,
Counts down as the moments are stealing,
That Friday Feeling.
That Friday Feeling
That Friday Feeling
"Picket Fences"
Picket Fences grew out of reflection on how many people enter into relationships with different expectations, and that is especially true when the people have been in relationships previously, and bring their 'baggage' with them. Some are looking for companionship and friendship; others want to settle down and create that 'perfect home' they had wanted in the beginning... different expectations create a precarious and often set the stage for failure in a relationship, so Picket Fences takes the often 'hidden' agenda and brings it to the light..
I know you're looking for
Something you've dreamed about
I can see it in your eyes
And though I want to say
Words that will make you stay
I don't want you to be surprised
pre-chorus
Cause baby I've been hurt one too many times
It's taken its toll on my heart
So before you start to build that dream house in your mind
I need to tell you right from the start
CHORUS:
I am not your picket fences
I am not that kind of man
What you're looking for, I tried to be before
So don't make those kind of plans
I'll give you all I've got to give
But it's not the life you want to live
So before you buy the matching towels you should know
I'm not your picket fences
v2
Happy ever after seemed
Such a distant dream
Until I walked into your life
Now you're looking round
For us to settle down
These words will cut you like a knife
pre-chorus
Cause I've been down this road too many times before
I feel the scars every day
I know this may send you running for the door
But I've got something I need to say
CHORUS:
I am not your picket fences
I am not that kind of man
What you're looking for, I tried to be before
So don't make those kind of plans
I'll give you all I've got to give
But it's not the life you want to live
So before you buy the matching towels you should know
I'm not your picket fences
BRIDGE
Maybe you think that given time
You can find a way to change my mind
This is not my first rodeo
I'm saying things you need to know
So you won't come crashing down..
CHORUS:
I am not your picket fences
I am not that kind of man
What you're looking for, I tried to be before
So don't make those kind of plans
I'll give you all I've got to give
But it's not the life you want to live
So before you buy the matching towels you should know
I'm not your picket fences
